SOCIAL SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY BASED INTERVENTIONS

The social support has become very important with the emergence and spread of diseases (especially infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and TB), war or insurgencies and socio-economic crisis, resulting in poverty, malnutrition and other diverse health problems, with lack of social protection, threatening the unity and existence of families and communities.

Community-based interventions on the other hand targets groups of individuals or a geographical community and not a single person. These interventions range from community mobilization and sensitizations, advocacy visits to outreaches and even home visits or door-to-door services and the focus is primarily to increase uptake of services and change individuals’ behaviours as a method for reducing the population’s risk disease.
