The theme of World Blood Donor Day this year is “Blood connects us all”, highlighting the common bond that all people share in their blood. The slogan, “Share life, give blood”, draws attention to the role that voluntary donation systems play in encouraging people to care for one another and promoting community cohesion.

Activities for the WBDD started at the NBTS zonal office with a press briefing by the NBTS coordinator and a welcome address by the representative of the Commissioner for Health. This was followed by the good will messages from APIN, JCI, Club 25 and the Muslim group
The highest voluntary donors were recognized. A man who had donated 47 times and another young man from club 25 who had donated 38 times were dully recognized.
One of the NBTS staff who was retiring from active service was also recognised and given an award. The activity later moved to the Polytechnic area for the day’s main event of awareness creation and donor drive.
APIN was adequately represented at all the events with their presence at the press briefing that held in NBTS office at Total garden, joined the mobile road show from NBTS office to Ibadan Polytechnic Main Gate and also provided light refreshment for Blood donors and Staffs.
APIN staff also participated actively in an open community drive around Ibadan Polytechnic Main Gate & Police Headquarters compound Eleyele Ibadan. LIWOM volunteers were also on ground to support the event, one of LIWOM’s volunteers (Seunfunmi) also “shared life by giving blood”.
This activity, as part of our blood safety program, is one of our efforts to show APIN’s commitment to making a pool of safe blood available for Nigerians who need them.
Highlight of the day was the launch of the Mobile Blood Donation Bus donated by Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo to get the youth to donate blood, Ronaldo through Rotary Club and his “BE THE 1” campaign hopes that more youth around the world support blood donation culture.
