[A] Project Summary
The Newborn Essential Solutions and Technologies (NEST) program aims to implement comprehensive newborn care through innovative lifesaving technologies, the provision of both technical and clinical capacity-building, implementation of clinical and technical educational programs and the building of a sustainable distribution network. The program aims to reduce inpatient neonatal mortality by 50% in support of national goals and is being implemented in seven Levels 2 and 3 public hospitals in two states of Nigeria. The NEST program wishes to conduct a clinical study to evaluate a novel medical device at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, in Lagos, Nigeria and seeks to fill the following 2 positions.
[B] Job description (1)
Position: Biomedical Engineering Research Assistant
Summary: Primarily responsible for technical support of clinical study by setting up research equipment, perform data collection, data entry, and preliminary data analysis.
Job functions:
– Participates in the overall data collection of the clinical study
– Works along medical research assistants in clinical study – Tests and maintains equipment tools used in clinical study – Completes data entry, management, and preliminary analysis – Reports research findings to research team
– Interacts with hospital staff as needed – Develops presentations and reports – Performs all other duties as assigned
Minimum Education Required:
– Bachelor’s Degree or diploma in Biomedical Engineering
Minimum Skills Required:
– Basic medical equipment troubleshooting skills
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
– Good analytical and research skills
– Experience in report writing
– Ability to build reports
– Good verbal and written communications skills
Skills Preferred:
– Familiar with Data Acquisition software
– Previous experience in research and/or developing biomedical engineering technologies
– Previous experience in clinical research experience

Position: Clinical Research Assistant
Summary: Primarily responsible for the implementation of clinical study with minimal supervision, performing daily clinical study activities as a clinician.
Job functions: – Screens for potential research participant
– Enrolls suitable candidates, ensuring all necessary documentation is collected and processed. Obtains written informed consent in accordance to Good Clinical Practice guidelines.
– Collects demographic data and other relevant variables from medical records. – Performs clinical study duties such as participant interaction, clinical assessments, vital signs checkups, and/or variable/observations recording.
– Provides direct patient care to study participant in addition to the clinical study duties – Assists with data entry, data and document management
– Reports research findings to research team
– Interacts with hospital staff as needed – Performs all other duties as assigned
Minimum Education Required:
– Licensed clinician: Licensed Nurse/Midwife, or Paediatric Nurse or Medical Degree (MBBS).
Minimum Skills Required:
– Medical Record documentation
– Experience in neonatal ward
– Good analytical and research skills
– Strong verbal and written communications skills for interacting with patients and reporting findings
Skills Preferred:
– Previous experience in clinical research in neonatal health
