To mark this year’s World Hand Hygiene Day, APIN Public Health Initiatives partnered with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to host a national awareness event at Maitama District Hospital, Abuja.
The event, themed “It might be gloves. It’s always hand hygiene,” featured a keynote address by Dr. Abiodun Isah of APIN, who emphasized the critical role of hand hygiene in preventing infections in healthcare settings and promoting global public health.
A live demonstration of proper handwashing techniques followed, highlighting the power of this simple practice in curbing the spread of infections. The event served as a strong reminder that clean hands save lives, and that everyone has a role to play in fostering healthier homes and communities.
APIN also extended the campaign to Benue State, starting in-house by educating staff on effective hand hygiene. The team then collaborated with the management of Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Makurdi to engage both clients and healthcare workers on the importance of consistent hand hygiene practices, particularly within clinical environments.
The sessions included demonstrations on correct handwashing and the proper use of hand sanitizers, with interactive participation from attendees. Volunteers were guided through the process and received feedback to reinforce best practices.
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is a shared responsibility. By embracing simple actions like handwashing, we can collectively protect our families, communities, and healthcare spaces from the spread of germs.
Kudos to the APIN Benue team for championing this vital cause and helping spread awareness across all levels!
