APIN Leads Technical Implementation of State-Level ART Impact Survey to Strengthen Nigeria’s HIV Response…Deputy CEO debriefs Lagos State Honourable Commissioner for Health.

The Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria, through the National AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs Control Program and with support from U.S. CDC Nigeria and PEPFAR, is advancing efforts to strengthen HIV programming nationwide by generating accurate, state-level data on treatment outcomes and service coverage.

As technical partner, APIN Public Health Initiatives is implementing the Nigeria State-Level ART Impact Survey (AIS) through its PHIS3 project, in collaboration with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The household-based survey, conducted in Akwa Ibom State, Lagos State, and Rivers State among adults aged 15–64, is designed to generate critical insights on HIV prevalence, antiretroviral therapy (ART) coverage, risk behaviours, and the impact of ART Surge implementation at the state level.

Following the successful completion of field activities in Lagos State, APIN’s Deputy CEO, Programs, Dr. Jay Osi Samuels, led a debriefing session with the Honourable Commissioner for Health, the Permanent Secretary, and senior officials at the Lagos State Ministry of Health to present preliminary findings and discuss implications for policy and service delivery.

The survey findings are expected to guide the structured transition of HIV services to the Government of Nigeria while serving as a model for similar state-level assessments nationwide.

Through this effort, APIN continues to reinforce its role as a trusted technical partner, ensuring the Government of Nigeria has access to high-quality, timely, and reliable data to drive evidence-based policy and sustainable HIV programming.
