APIN Celebrates A Decade of Partnership At the 2025 NISA Conference!

APIN Public Health Initiatives proudly attended, participated in, and co-sponsored the 2025 Nigeria Implementation Science Alliance (NISA) Conference, which held recently in Abuja. The event brought together researchers, implementers, policymakers, and implementing partners committed to transforming health systems through evidence-based approaches.

The conference, themed around innovation, sustainability, and collaboration in implementation science, marked a decade of NISA’s impactful work in Nigeria. APIN’s Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Prosper Okonkwo, delivered a powerful opening reflection on our organization’s 10-year journey as a proud NISA member. He highlighted how the alliance has strengthened APIN’s capacity and sharpened the quality of our interventions over the years.

Throughout the conference, APIN staff contributed to insightful discussions and sessions. A major highlight was a breakout session led by Dr. Olabanjo Ogunsola, our Director of Non-Communicable Diseases, which focused on community engagement strategies in implementation research. Using the NIH-funded CHESS Project as a case study, panelists from Emory University, University of Ibadan, and the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) explored how this approach is advancing community-based cervical cancer screening in Nigeria.

The APIN exhibition stand also became a hub for one-on-one engagement, networking, and deep conversations with attendees passionate about public health impact. Visitors explored our work, exchanged ideas, and discussed practical approaches to scaling innovation.

From oral presentations to panels, the conference underscored the importance of not just what we achieve in public health, but how we do it. Conversations emphasized the processes and systems that ensure health services are effective, resilient, and responsive to community needs. Presenters including APIN’s own Dr. Temi Omole, Dr. Oluseye Ajayi, Enebi Achimugu, and Demenongo Aboho, showcased innovative solutions ranging from digital tools for HIV data validation to AI-powered approaches for tuberculosis diagnosis and care.

As the conference came to a close, one message resonated clearly: sustainable impact in health requires consistent investment, meaningful collaboration, and a bold commitment to innovation. APIN remains proud to stand with NISA in driving implementation science that changes lives.

Congratulations to the organizers, speakers, and delegates on a successful event, and here’s to the next chapter of advancing health through science.
