The ability of a newborn to maintain body temperature can determine survival, particularly for babies born too small or too soon. In many health facilities, preventing hypothermia requires constant manual monitoring, placing significant pressure on already stretched healthcare workers. Continuous and responsive thermal care remains critical to improving neonatal outcomes.
Through the NEST360 initiative, APIN Public Health Initiatives has supported three secondary health facilities in Lagos State with the delivery of Celsi Warmers and Celsi Monitors. The beneficiary facilities include Amuwo-Odofin Maternal and Child Centre, Randle General Hospital, and Eti-Osa Maternal and Child Centre.

The Celsi Warmer is designed to gently maintain a newborn’s body temperature, while the Celsi Monitor provides continuous temperature tracking and instant alerts to healthcare workers if abnormalities are detected. This real-time monitoring capability enables faster clinical response and strengthens the survival chances of vulnerable infants.
To ensure optimal utilization of the devices, APIN partnered with Mutabell to provide hands-on training for healthcare professionals across the three facilities. With trained teams and functional equipment now in place, the facilities have commenced technology-supported thermal care for hypothermic newborns.
In collaboration with committed health workers, facility leadership, and partners within the NEST360 alliance in Nigeria, this intervention represents a significant step toward reducing neonatal mortality and strengthening facility-based newborn care.
Every newborn deserves an equal opportunity to survive and thrive.
