APIN Participates in 7th National Council on AIDS to Advance Nigeria’s HIV Sustainability Agenda

Lagos, Nigeria — August 2025

APIN’s Chief Executive Officer and Deputy CEO (Programs) participated in the 7th National Council on AIDS (NCA), which commenced on August 5, 2025, in Lagos.

Hosted by the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), this year’s council is convened under the timely theme: “Advancing the National HIV Sustainability Agenda in the Changing Global Policy on Aid.” The theme reflects ongoing discussions around shifting foreign aid landscapes and the need for Nigeria to take greater ownership of its HIV response.

As a long-standing partner in Nigeria’s HIV response, APIN is proud to join key national stakeholders for this high-level dialogue focused on sustainability, local resource mobilization, and policy direction. Our participation underscores our commitment to ensuring the continuity and effectiveness of HIV services, even in the face of evolving global funding priorities.

This year’s meeting provides an opportunity to reflect on the substantial progress Nigeria has made in controlling the HIV epidemic, while also addressing the next steps required to maintain and expand those gains through stronger domestic investment, policy alignment, and strategic partnerships.

APIN remains dedicated to supporting efforts that ensure more people living with HIV achieve and maintain viral suppression, contributing to a future where the epidemic is no longer a public health threat in Nigeria.
