APIN Supports Launch of the Integrated Disease Testing and Surveillance (IDTS) Project in Lagos

History was made as we supported the launch of the Integrated Disease Testing and Surveillance (IDTS) project at the Central Public Health Laboratory of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Lagos.

Funded by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the US (TECRO), through CDC Foundation and with technical assistance from U.S CDC Nigeria and APIN, the project aims to strengthen NCDC’s capacity for advanced diagnostic services and laboratory-based surveillance for malaria, Neglected Tropical Disease (NTDs), mycotic diseases and other disease of public health importance. To kickstart the project, the US CDC, TECRO and CDC Foundation made a generous donation of laboratory equipment for the implementation of the IDTS project at CPHL.

The event was graced with the presence of key government stakeholders including NCDC DG, Dr Jide Idris , Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi and top officers from the Nigeria National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) programme of the Federal Ministry of Health. There to show their support for the project and goodwill for NCDC were U.S Consul General, Mr Will Stevens; U.S. CDC Acting Country Director, Suzanne Theroux; CDC Foundation Representative, Cassandra Webber; APIN CEO, Dr Prosper Okonkwo and representatives of the Taipei Trade Office in Nigeria.
