Today at the CDC Biannual Program Performance Review meeting / 2022 End of Project Cycle, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Nigeria presented awards to all implementing partners including APIN for Public Health Excellence. APIN was the only IP to receive two awards!!

In addition to the award for Public Health Excellence which all the other IP’s received, APIN received a Special Services Award for our support to NASCP during the launch of the National Clinical Mentors Programme (NCMP).

The two-day meeting brings together stakeholders and implementing partners from all 19 PEPFAR-supported states to discuss and review the progress that the HIV program in Nigeria has recorded, particularly with support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) / the U.S President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

We deeply appreciate the U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Mary Beth Leonard, the National Coordinator of the National AIDS, STIs and Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NASCP), Dr Akudo Ikpeazu and the CDC Nigeria Country Director, Dr Mary Boyd who presented the award to our CEO, Dr Prosper Okonkwo.

The Nigeria Implementation Science Alliance (NISA) just completed its 2-day conference themed “Sustainability of Programs and Research”. APIN was one of the sponsors and several of our staff attended and participated in multiple capacities.

Our Deputy CEO (Programs), Dr. Jay Osis Samuels served as the moderator for the panel discussion on “Taking Ownership: Sustainability of PEPFAR Programs”. Our staff from project states submitted abstracts and also attended the conference. Dr Oluseye Ajayi, the Project Manager for our ANC-Fever project presented an abstract on our experience implementing the project and received the prestigious Best Abstract Gold Award for his abstract! The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence (GBV) is marked globally from November 25th (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day). This year, the theme is “Orange the world: End violence against women now!” with the slogan ”Her story is Our Story. This year, stakeholders, governments and decision makers are drawing attention to the need for an enabling environment where victims and survivors of GBV are empowered to speak out and share their stories so that they can get the support and help that they need. APIN will join the rest of the world to raise our voice against all forms of violence against people through a series of events across our state locations, starting with a Webinar. The National TB Conference 2021 will bring together stakeholders from within and outside Nigeria working to end Tuberculosis (TB) in the country. It will also provide a platform to deliberate on topical issues in TB control, and to foster and harness intersectoral and institutional collaboration to end TB in Nigeria. This conference will also focus on the magnitude and dimensions of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on TB control in Nigeria, and will provide an opportunity to share experiences and recommend strategies to address TB control during the current and future pandemics.

This is a gathering of all the laboratory staff in the APIN program. It is a yearly meeting where all members of the team gather to review performances at the end of each financial year and all plan and review strategies for the new year. Members from Ondo, Ekiti, Benue, Plateau, Ogun, Oyo, Osun state and the Central office in Abuja were all in attendance. The meeting was at the instance of the Director of Laboratory Services, Dr Jay Osi Samuels.
