For more than 17 years, APIN has contributed to the National HIV response through service delivery support technical assistance capacity including evidence generation and partnership. Our Team has implemented project and programs such as the GH1058 (2008-2013), CARES (2013-2017). These projects strengthen service delivery system to provide high quality service, harness the complementary effort at the private sector and support government agencies in priority setting and planning for a sustainable HIV response. We have the development and casting of national HIV and AIDS strategies to support governments and other stake holders in prioritization resource allocation and enhance accountability. We also partner with national and sub-national governments, public institutions, civil society organizations bilateral development partners and the private sector to improve health sector outcomes.
To date, we have provided cares and support to about 250,000 HIV infected individuals while over 150,000 HIV positive children and adults at more than 70 clinics in over 10 states have been placed on life saving anti-retroviral drugs. We have also provided a complete package of services including health, education, nutrition, shelter and legal protection to about 147,714 orphans and vulnerable children with collaboration with our civil society organization partners.
Since program inception, APIN has reached 391,955 individuals with HIV prevention messages, focusing on abstinence/be-faithful, accurate and consistent condom use. We have also counselled and tested 4,145, 664 individuals for HIV so they know their status and can make informed choices. Working in over 500 health center and clinics and within communities; we have counselled and tested about 1,000,000 pregnant women for HIV and provided drugs to almost 50,000 HIV positive pregnant women to stop the transmission of the virus to their babies and keep them healthy.
